As a human, it's your job to educate yourself about different belief and value systems. What you grew up learning isn't necessarily right, and doesn't necessarily align with your beliefs and values. This dance is about the struggle and fight to gain self-awareness and independence in being vegan. Just because the family or society around you follow anti-vegan practices doesn't mean you have to. My plea, as I’m sure is the case with the majority of vegans out there, is for people to bear witness to the unpleasant images and hear the screams of the endless number of victims so that we may re-construct the way we perceive reality and behave in ways that will protect the greater good. If we fail to take the time to frequently sit down and contemplate the ripple effect of our actions on our planet and our societies and at the very least, consider alternative actions, we will be doomed. The same fate that we inflict on so many other persons, both human and non-human, May one day turn around and become our fate. We start the process of dreaming after we have opened our eyes to the system that exists within our current reality. Ryan Holiday wrote that in order to change the system, you must first go through the system.
